The Friends of Space, the charity in support of the Space Centre in Preston has acquired a new partnership with Portergate Property Management as its chosen charity of the year for 2019-20. The Space Centre is the largest multi-sensory environment for anyone with special needs in the UK.
The Space Centre, which opened in 1993 and Winner of the Technology Award in The 3rd Sector Care Awards 2015, has two large soft-padded rooms and one non-padded room for clients who require a quiet environment, in addition to a Sensory Woodland Walk, as well as a new garden. All of which the charity supports.
Space offers a totally flexible environment for families, carers, therapists and teachers with multiple benefits such as freedom for clients to move safely, improving and building confidence and increasing learning potential.
Portergate Property Management, based at both Friargate Court in Preston and Riverside House in Salford, will contribute to the Space centre by acquiring volunteers for events, such as a fundraising and raising publicity about the charity. Most recently, the student and key worker accommodation helped with a successful bag-packing event in Preston and donated various gifts for the charity to use for various fundraising activities.
In addition to this, any acceptable goods or monetary value left by residents will be donated to the Space Centre to improve fundraising efforts.
Karen Preece, Managing Director of Portergate Property Management, commented: “We are delighted to announce the Space Centre as our Charity of the Year. The work they do is crucial to the community in Preston and will help so many lives.
“We are in a position to be able to spread the message across our accommodation locations, helping to fundraise and host events wherever possible, and it is great that we are able to do that.”
Andrea Baker, Fundraiser for Space, said: “We are delighted to be the Charity of the Year for Portergate Property Management. The Space Centre relies on the generosity of businesses and people to help us survive, we are all very much looking forward to this partnership.”
